Avis: How do I begin to describe the greatest teacher that I have ever met?
Well, I guess I should start off by saying that he is a huge part of my life, he is not only my teacher, but he is my best friend and has helped me grow into the person I am today. When we first met, I was a shy 9th grader who sat in the front row of his 8th-period journalism class and kept her head down. All I worried about was turning in my stories on time and making sure I had a good grade in his class. Here I am, three years later, still the same height but a completely changed person. I’m no longer that shy girl, I’m more mature, more open-minded, and I have him to thank for that. For whatever reason, Milian saw something in me and broke me out of my shell. He pushed so many opportunities my way and made me strive every day to be a better person. He inspired me to take action and know my worth and gave me an outlet to express myself in a world where that is limited. I can’t even begin to describe how much that meant to me, especially at this age where everything happens so fast and it was hard for me to get a grip on reality. Over the years not only has he seen me grow but I’ve had the chance to see him grow as well. Seeing him become a father and taking on that newfound responsibility was an inspiration in itself. The way he spoke so highly of his family and never spent a day without expressing his love for them made me realize the definition of a real man, and made me proud of being able to call someone like that my mentor. Not only is he a great man, husband, and father, but he is a great friend and I am honored to have him in my life. For three years I have tried to come up with a way to express my gratitude and I've come to realize that I will never be able to thank him as much as I should, he deserves a billion thank you's. but hopefully, this makes up for that. In a year I will be graduating and that brings many changes. The greatest one will be not having the comfort of his classroom just a couple steps away from me when things got too rough. In addition to that, he won't have his favorite student by his side 24/7 anymore (that's the real tragedy). At first, I was scared, but now, I know that I am ready, he has prepared me for what's to come in the real world, both academically and emotionally, and I am forever grateful. Thank you.
